Welcome to my website. I hope the information you find on this site useful in assisting you to select the right therapist for you, a family member, or a friend.
I provide comprehensive psychotherapy and consultation services for children, adolescents, and adults. I have extensive education and training, and have been practicing for over 25 years.
Below, you will find a brief overview of my expertise and experience. You will also find more detailed information elsewhere on this site.
Please feel free to contact me at karma@karmaguindon.com if you have questions or would like more information about my services.
Practice Approach
My approach to practice is client-centred, respectful, accepting, and collaborative. I use an integrative and evidence-based approach to practice. In other words, I base my assessment and treatment approach on best research evidence. I have studied all of the major models of therapy (including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Cogntivie Behaviour Therapy, Emotion Focussed Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, EMDR, Relational Life Therapy (RLT), and psychodynamic models) and draw from these so that I am able to tailor my approach to clients' specific needs and personal style.
I make every effort to ensure that people receive the best care.
Consultation and Teaching
For the past 20 years, I have provided consultation and supervision to students and experienced therapists and social service workers. I have also taught numerous college and university courses in therapy and mental health. I currently teach Dialectial Behaviour Therapy at Wilfrid Laurier University and offer yearly training in professional ethics to social workers in British Columbia and Ontario.
Doctoral Education
I have a doctorate in Social Work. My research examines contemporary understandings of ethical practice.
Research and Publications
I regularly present at workshops and provincial, national, and international conferences where I discuss ways to provide child-centred psychotherapy to children and the current thinking on cultivating ethical psychotherapy relationships. My research initiatives (with R. Mitchell) have examined the effectiveness of psychotherapy services for children and adolescents experiencing complex mental health issues, and the experiences of parents participating in a parenting group support program that I developed. I co-authored a DBT therapy book for adolescents diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which was published in 2009 by New Harbinger Press.
